Essay / Legacy of Genocide - 833
“Every genocide leaves a legacy,” said Freddy Mutanguha, Aegis Country Director in Rwanda. An inheritance is anything passed down from an ancestor or predecessor. One of the many legacies of genocide is denial. Genocides contain a legacy of negation of their existence. For example, nations that were victims of the Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide deny its existence. Denial of these genocides can affect people at both high points of the genocide. The Holocaust is a period in history in which as many as six million Jews were killed during World War II in concentration camps. The word "holocaust" meaning burned to the ground in Greek was used to describe the genocide carried out by German Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in an attempt to purify the German race. He considered the Jews an inferior group to the Germans and a threat to their pure race. Although they had been persecuted in small numbers before the war, Hitler later developed his final solution to the Holocaust, namely a plan to finally execute them. At the end of World War II, his plan failed, but large numbers of Jews died in concentration camps, gas chamber style. Today, eyewitness accounts can be found of the event despite the country's denial. The Armenian Genocide was the massacre of approximately one and a half million Armenians who perished at the hands of the Ottomans and the Turkish people. The genocide was carried out by a group called the “Young Turk” from the government of the Ottoman Empire. The Armenian genocide was well planned. At first they were removed from the army and then killed. After that, many Armenian leaders were arrested and killed. Eventually, Armenians were called from their homes, saying they were going to be transferred, but then sent to concentration camps. While being sent to the middle of paper...... in the hearts of many people. Works Cited Denial. (nd). In the online psychology dictionary.
