Essay / Queen Mary of Scots - 748
There have been many kings and queens throughout the centuries of the world. Some even still exist today, like Queen Elizabeth of England. Rulers, as some called them, were considered public figures and, in some cases, even gods. Some were even considered cruel beyond belief, one leader was even nicknamed Bloody Mary due to her cruelty. The ruler I am going to talk about is this ruler's cousin, but her name is Queen Mary of the Scotts. She was the only surviving child of King James V of Scotland, who died when she was 6 days old. her fall from the throne ("Mary I" 1 Britannica). “At the age of 5, her mother saw fit to send Marie to France, where she was raised at the court of King Henry II. “Mary's education was not neglected and she learned Latin, Italian, Spanish and some Greek. French had now become her mother tongue, and indeed, in every other way, Mary had become a Frenchwoman rather than a Scotswoman” (“Mary” 2 Britannica). Even though she wasn't with her parents or an uncle, she still received an incredible education. Often, royal families tend to fight against each other, fearing that the other will retain the throne. Queen Mary was Scottish but because of the way she was raised she became French, which I find interesting. All because of the way her uncle raised her instead of her mother raising her. “Her remarkable beauty, with her tall and slender figure, her red hair and amber eyes, and her taste for music and poetry, Marie summed up the contemporary ideal of the Renaissance princess at the time of her marriage to François, eldest son of Henry and Catherine, in April 1558. Although it was a political match aimed at the union of France and Scotland, Mary was sincerely...... middle of paper ......th Crown. Queen Elizabeth considered Mary a dangerous threat to her position and therefore put her on trial here. Even though she was the queen of another country, she was still hounded by an English court, convicted and then executed in 1587. Queen Mary of Scotland lived an interesting life, beginning with the death of her father while she was only 6 years old until her execution at the age of 44. Many people can argue about her reign and how she was either unjustified or justified in her actions on how she ruled her country. I believe she was a misunderstood woman whose family screwed her over and had to suffer the consequences of her family's bad actions towards her country. Growing up in France, she was unsuited to lead Scotland as she had been brought up with a different outlook on life. This led to his downfall and execution at the age of 44.
