    IntroductionI. Most people dream of the day they will meet their soul mate and fall in love.II. They are reassured to know that they have someone with whom to spend the rest of their lives, with whom to start a family and share the security that this country promises them.III. Unfortunately, same-sex couples are denied these rights in approximately thirty-three U.S. states.IV. Today I'm going to illustrate why same-sex marriage should be legal. And why a topic that has been discussed so many times needs to be addressed holistically so that all of America can enjoy equal freedoms.TRANSTION-Opposition today to same-sex marriage is outdated and irrelevant.BodyI. People opposed to same-sex marriage generally argue that same-sex couples are not suitable parents because they cannot conceive a child without the help of a third party. This is why they should not be allowed to marry since the only reason for marriage is to have a baby. A) This is of no use because there are many married couples who do not have children. Additionally, gays and lesbians should not be labeled as unfit to be parents, as to date no credible study has been recorded saying otherwise. B) In fact, a study by the AAP, the American Academy of Pediatrics, shows that children raised in homes with two parents of the same sex develop as normally as their peers.1. Stating that on average, children in lesbian homes are seen to achieve higher grades, gain more self-esteem, and be less likely to develop behavioral problems.TRANSITION-These are just a few- some of the outdated arguments used.II.
