    Attorneys, accountants, military, and law enforcement officials are just some of the public service jobs held by citizen volunteers from all walks of life, but what if such a two-year service was compulsory for all high school graduates? It could be argued that this would strengthen public services with an influx of staff to provide a more robust service. Would the reasons for implementing this type of service outweigh the consequences? I don't believe it. In fact, I believe that compulsory civil service would only serve to weaken the military, increase government spending, and would be a direct violation of the United States Constitution. Certainly, public service could instill a sense of patriotism and civic pride while providing broader skills. on the playing field, but if people didn't want to serve, many complications would also arise. For example, negative attitudes that develop as a result of forced commitment could lead to disciplinary problems, loss of productivity and lower quality of work. This is already happening on a smaller scale, with volunteers entering the military and finding it doesn't meet their expectations. These staff sometimes become unhappy and this often results in inappropriate or bad behavior. As it stands, one of the most extreme consequences of this behavior is expulsion from the military with a “bad conduct discharge” (Powers, 2011). However, when an individual's desire is to be discharged, this consequence is compromised and the resulting situation becomes contrary to the good order and discipline which are essential to the functioning of the military.
