    Critical and creative thinking is fundamental to human intellectual progress and its artifacts (Dewey, Elder, Csikszentmihalyi, Rosenman, & Gero, 2012). Critical and creative thinking are considered higher levels of thinking because, although the critical thinker is thought to primarily use the left brain and a creative thinker to primarily use the right brain, both types of thinkers tend to to think outside the box, but in different ways. . There is no direct connection between critical thinking and creative thinking, but each of them uses different dimensions of thinking. Critical thinking is convergent thinking, creative thinking is divergent thinking. Critical thinking is a process used to reflect on and judge ideas and efforts, whether our own or those of others. Critical thinkers generally think beyond the given and the obvious in order to delve deeper into their thoughts and ideas in order to better analyze and understand them. Critical thinkers think logically, while using their ability to draw strong conclusions. Critical thinking involves considering possibilities carefully, fairly, and constructively – focusing your thoughts and actions by organizing and analyzing possibilities, refining and developing the most promising possibilities, ranking or prioritizing options and choosing certain options (Treffinger, 2008). Critical thinkers evaluate, classify, interpret, identify, and categorize during their thought process. Creative thinking is more of a mental process than a logical one. Creative people use more of their mental raw materials and practice less intellectual regulation (Baumgartner, 2013). In conclusion, critical and creative thinking can be used separately or collaboratively, depending on the situation or decision being made. Some people are critical thinkers by nature and rarely use the creative thinking process, while the same is true for creative thinkers who rarely use the critical thinking process. I have used both in collaboration to make an important decision to move from one state to another, but these thinking/reasoning methods can be used in a wide variety of ways and methods. Critical thinking refers to the skills needed to draw parallels, understand intersections, identify problems, and develop lasting solutions… while creative thinking is how ideas are defined (Burgess, 2010).
