  • Essay / America Needs the Patriot Act - 835

Is the Patriot Act unconstitutional? The Patriot Act was introduced in 2001 after the September 11 attacks. The purpose of the Patriot Acts is to deter and punish terrorist acts in the United States and around the world. The Patriot Act aims to help end terrorism by making it easier for suspected terrorists to obtain search warrants. The purpose of the Patriot Act is to enable law enforcement to find and punish those responsible for the September 11 attacks and to protect against any similar attacks. The law gives the government the authority to trace and intercept terrorist communications for both law enforcement and intelligence purposes. This means the government can use wiretapping, monitor email traffic, confiscate property and impose accounting requirements on financial institutions to stop terrorist financing. The Patriot Act allows information sharing between intelligence agencies, authorizes wiretap authorization to cover multiple devices such as cell phones and computers, allows easier access to business records in foreign intelligence investigations, facilitates the initiation of wiretaps and foreign intelligence searches, allows search warrants that allow authorities to search a home or business without notifying the targeted suspect, and it prohibits providing any form of support to terrorist organizations . The Patriotic Law makes it easier for authorities to obtain a search warrant if the individual is suspected of terrorism. The Patriot Act allows the government to access books, documents and other records related to the suspect. (FAS) People who support the Patriot Act say it helps stop and prevent terrorism. The main reason people support the Patriot Act is fear of another terror... middle of paper... around. I believe that if the government was not able to spy on suspected terrorists, our country would experience more casualties due to terrorism.
