  • Essay / Importance of Lying - 1141

Mastering the art of lying has been a continuing development for humanity. Over the centuries, lying has become a necessity in today's modern world. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines a lie as “to make a false statement with the intent to deceive.” Even though lying is condemned, lying is something that everyone is a victim of. For many people, lying is a common habit that saves time and pain. Whether lying is necessary to escape consequences or involves misrepresentation to deceive or persuade, lying has become a complex art form. If mastered carefully, it can be useful when dealing with this crazy beautiful thing we call life. Using a lie incorrectly can result in a negative impact on lives. Lying comes in many forms and variations depending on the situation in which it is used. Lies are obstacles that prevent a person from communicating with people. Although lies can be used to avoid hurting a person's feelings, lies kill trust between people. Lies leave behind a destructive path and damage trust in a relationship. The lie creates a boundary between people once committed. The foundation of any relationship is trust. If someone cannot be trusted, then what is the point of maintaining that relationship if it cannot be found? In Death of a Salesman, Biff discovers Willy's secret relationship and says, "Don't touch me, you liar!" » "You're pretending!" “You fake little fake!” “You’re pretending!” (Miller 121). It's obvious to Biff what's going on and that Willy has been lying to his family all along. Biff ends up collapsing on the spot and is left with tears and disappointment in his father. This happened because Willy Loman lied to his family and that's how lies eventually take a turn...... middle of paper...... deception and lying. Even though God is merciful to us when we lie, that doesn't mean we don't sin when we do. Lying is something that can make or break relationships with people. Not only will people lose their trust in you after finding out the truth, but they will also lose their respect for you. No one wants to be friends with a liar, associate with a liar, or marry a liar. Guilt is another underlying consequence of lying responsibility. Lying to your family, friends, or both can make you feel guilty because you are killing the trust they have placed in you. Lying is an art that can be successfully determined by its effectiveness and ability to avoid getting caught, and the morality of lying is determined by the intentions of the liar. To lie or not to lie, it all depends on the benefits or consequences that result from it.
