Essay / The position of women in patriarchal society - 1560
There are only two genders in the world, one is male and the other female. Many advocates and sociologists have spoken out in favor of equality between men and women, but so far the goal of equality has not yet been achieved. Women have always been dominated by men in the patriarchal society where men are the heads of the household and decision makers. Men are the supreme authority and women are the followers. When we hear these things, even in the 21st century, it is not something new or surprising, because it is still practiced in our society and there is no woman in the world who has not suffered this discrimination at least once in their life. lifetime. That's not it, women didn't fight for their rights, but the fact is that no one is there to hear their voices. Women have always wanted to get their rights and they have also fought for that, but it is their misfortune that their privileges and opportunities are always taken away from them by men. The question might arise whether all human beings are equal? If so, why are men and women not equal? As a woman raised in a developing country, I have experienced the effects of this societal dichotomy. Thus, I would like to delineate this aspect of division in society using feminist theory to analyze the position of women in patriarchal society and I choose Simone de Beauvoir as my theorist. Feminist theory is similar to critical theory which focuses on the social. status of the two genders, namely man and woman, in patriarchal societies. Her main concern is women's rights. For example, the right to vote, the right to own property, equal pay in office, equal opportunities, are things that women always want to achieve in their lives. ...... middle of paper ...... nothing was achieved. The question of equality still arises but the answer remains unknown. The propensity for male domination is deeply ingrained in society and women have always been humiliated, tortured and less valued by men. Even today, men are expected to be the heads of the family and women are confined within the four walls of the house. Finally, it would not be unfair to mention that we still live in a patriarchal society where men are the perpetrators and women are the victims. Patriarchy is so deeply rooted in society and no one knows how many years it will take to eradicate its roots from society forever.
