Essay / Inequality constructed by the family - 1614
The image of Canadian families and the relationships built within their homes marks a notable change. Meg Luxton and Sedef Arat-Koc represent the different positions individuals occupy due to balancing work and family. This reflects how power is maintained within the household and how decisions are made. Meg Luxton's reading, Wives and Husbands, and Family Coping Strategies, raises the complexity of family life due to gender inequality. In Family Coping Strategies, women struggle to balance work and domestic work. In Sedef Arat-Kocs's reading, The Politics of Family and Immigration in the Subordination of Domestic Workers in Canada, the situation in which domestic workers are placed leaves them with limited freedom, but their place within the household is important. Based on the readings, my argument is that the way households and families are constructed in Canada represents a shift in the way women and domestic workers are treated. The first way this is maintained is through gender inequalities and their causes. The second path lies in the nature of the vulnerable position of nannies within households and the causes that arise from it. Finally, in order to understand how families are constructed through the way these social inequalities are imposed on women and domestic workers, we need to think about what should change to undermine these social inequalities. The change represented in the construction of households and families manifests itself in the reality of inequalities. Meg Luxton's reading, Wives and Husbands, explores the gender relationships that occur in nuclear families. It is clear that men retain privileges within the home due to the sexual division of labor. ......middle of paper ......vision of work. The vulnerability of domestic workers in Sedef Arat-Koc's reading represents their importance in addressing the isolation of care work, while leaving them facing a difficult work environment with negative factors and effects. Finally, highlight what needs to change to combat these social inequalities in order to understand the perspective from which women and domestic workers come. Works cited Arat-Koc, Sedef. 2009.
