  • Essay / Improving Seniors' Health - 2027

Health is a major issue in the United States, but Americans are primarily focused on the health of the younger population. Although the younger population is large, it wouldn't hurt if Americans took the time to focus on the older population. In other words, Americans should honor our elderly citizens, because without their wisdom and experience, there would be little to cherish. Older citizens are often the backbone of society. According to the World Health Organization website, “The world is aging rapidly. Although a significant challenge for the developed world, 70% of all older people now live in low- and middle-income countries. Population aging is also occurring much more quickly in these countries. This means they will have a much briefer opportunity to build the infrastructure needed to respond to this demographic trend” (Our Aging World). Now that the elderly population is increasing, the focus should be on the elderly and spend more time meeting their needs. In this case, Americans need to take the well-being of older adults more seriously than viewing it as a non-factor. Older people have an impact on today's society. Additionally, the World Health Organization states: “Population aging also represents an opportunity for societies. If older people can maintain their health and live in an environment that encourages their active participation, their experience, skills and wisdom will undoubtedly constitute a resource for societies. However, most very advanced people will need accessible and effective short- and long-term care” (Our Aging World 2011). It is important to ensure that older people are in good health, as this will allow them to invest more energy in research and this will support the thesis well. "WHO | Our aging world." Internet. This source also gives basic information worded in a completely different way to make it easier to understand, but it provides detailed facts that can be used in the daily lives of older people.
