With my project Todos Tenemos Esperanza (TTE), I propose to help homeless families and individuals facing multiple obstacles to self-sufficiency. Working through a network of housing programs and services in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the communities there. The organization is run by a community led by me, Jonathan Ponce, and four managers each bringing expertise in the four strategies of housing, health, economic development, and social justice. A unionized, trained workforce is at the heart of all TTE's work, and many volunteers and community partnerships enhance the response to end homelessness. TTE partners with eight churches strategically dispersed from each other to easily help the community. Each church has homes and shelters where they welcome the homeless to serve them. The funds we receive mainly come from the churches that support the project. We also receive government funding and assistance in all four project areas: housing, health care, economic development and social justice. The program employs 4 main strategies to combat homelessness and poverty: housing, health, income and social justice. TTE programs provide the level of support people need and demand in order to strengthen their health, well-being and independence. We know that some people come to “Todos Tenemos Esperanza” for one-off or temporary assistance and that others with a history of chronic homelessness and more severe difficulties may engage in TTE services for longer periods. We also collaborate with other social justice organizations to help people and achieve common goals. The path to wellness is unique for each person.
