Essay / The importance of fairy tales? - 1002
They cause the mind to move to a place where the child is actually with the characters, not just reading about them. Having and creating a healthy mind involves many aspects. You should not expect your child to get anything positive from a violent and evil fairy tale, except fear. Fear will not teach a child how to deal with their problems. A contemporary fairy tale will teach them how to solve their problems without scaring the children who have heard or read these fairy tales. English writer GK Chesterton said: “Fairy tales do not tell children that dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children that dragons can be slain. (Taylor, Melissa). Learning to deal with problems helps build a healthy and stable mind. In addition to learning to deal with problems, children also learn to read better. When reading the most modern fairy tales, one book will not be enough and they will want to read another. This will also lead them to further explore what they read and expand their knowledge on the subject. Like if a child read about dragons and was intrigued, they would then go and learn more about those dragons and begin to open up a whole new world of possibilities of what they could learn ("Influence of Fairy Tales on Life") . If the fairy tale scares the child, he has no chance of wanting to start another one. Therefore, when you read darker fairy tales to a child, the growth of knowledge is slowed down and this is unhealthy for your child.
