It is clear from the People and Planet Positive report that such an increase in energy consumption could take place between 2012 and 2020. As a result, management agreed that for the company could achieve a sustainable development objective, it had to achieve energy independence before 2020. The company therefore embarked on investing in solar and wind energy. Thus, the company's ability to foresee future challenges in its operations allows it to remain sustainable by investing in solving problems before they arise. IKEA's 2013 sustainability report shows that the company is following its renewable electricity development plan (Peter 2). Clearly, the company has reduced its waste and carbon dioxide emissions in order to achieve environmental sustainability. According to Pfeffer Jeffrey's book Building Sustainable Organizations: The Human Factor', Academy of Management Perspectives, he mentioned that IKEA's business model of leveraging private equity interests in different markets helps it reduce costs associated with operating in as a business. The government can levy more taxes on corporations than on private holdings. Notably, the ability to operate under different models allows the business to remain sustainable as it can change models depending on the activity.
