There is a need to identify appropriate environmental policies to mitigate transportation to reduce its environmental impacts and include fuel and vehicle technology, transportation management, research and infrastructure planning. Ministries of Transport will need to comply with specific policies aimed at improving air, water and land quality to ensure that negative impacts on the transport system are minimized. Clean energy policies must continue to be respected to ensure the transportation system is not negatively affected. Policies that would achieve energy savings without affecting transportation improvements should be reviewed. Policies to control transport emissions that contribute to the greenhouse effect need to be researched to ensure that the impacts of the transport system minimize negative effects on the environment. But these strategies can only work if state and federal laws implement these requirements. If the Ministry of Transport does not comply, it should be subject to sanctions by the Ministry of Transport.
