  • Essay / Exploring the hills with my extended family

Table of contentsIntroductionDay 1Day 2Day 3IntroductionIt's been a while since I last visited the mountains and the travel enthusiast in me was craving an escape to the hills . So I implored my uncle to plan a little family trip over the weekend. Surprisingly, he was equally excited about all of us visiting a hill station. Say no to plagiarism. Whether your family is close and travels quite often; or if you only meet them once or twice a year, it's nice to spend a vacation with them. It was during the summers of 2016 that we decided to travel. Everyone had different travel perspectives, budgets, needs and wants. So it was difficult to find a place that the whole crew would like. We chose a refreshing and calming destination in the misty and picturesque mountains, called Phakot. It is a serene and lesser-known place, located in the hills, away from the bustling crowds of the city. While limiting our choices, we opted for a resort that was convenient for everyone. One of my uncle's friends had recently stayed there and his review of the place was nothing short of fantastic. Planning and executing our trip just got a lot easier. Day 1We finally started our journey at 6 am from Delhi. After an eight-hour journey filled with curves, picturesque mountains and lush green plains; we reached Phakot in the afternoon. All we could do was unpack, eat lunch, and browse our assigned rooms. In the evening we went to a famous temple nearby. There weren't many people there and the place was always tidy and clean. After seeking the blessings of the almighty, we left for a drive. There was a point near the temple from where one can admire the most spectacular view of the city. Day 2As it was not possible to cover all the places in the area, we only put the best ones on our bucket list. The next day we were to visit Tehri Dam which was 45 km from our property. We had to drive down to reach the dam. The green-blue lake was so beautiful and left us constantly in awe. You need to obtain special permission in advance to visit Tehri Dam from inside. My uncle had already had it and so we were lucky enough to be able to visit the interior of the dam. I suggest that one should definitely opt for it if one visits the area. A short drive from the dam was Tehri Lake, where one can indulge in water sports. Even though the adults (except my uncle) in my family withdrew, I was still motivated to do so. You can munch on Maggi and other snacks sold in nearby shops while enjoying the perfect scenery that seems straight out of a beautiful painting! Day 3We woke up early this morning. It was magical to observe the mountain range early in the morning as the sun gradually dissipated the darkness. Later we had tea and a light breakfast and then headed towards Rajaji National Park. On our way to the park, we saw some beautiful scenes in the area. Every time we move away from the city, we discover nature differently. Trees, wild shrubs, terraced fields, streams and lakes; everything looked fascinating. Before leaving, we had prepared the Safari; packed light and carried.
