  • Essay / Essay on Street Art - 1529

What is ArtArt has existed as long as humans. It is cherished by all races and respected for many generations. It is the universal language that has no barriers; people of all different ethnicities and languages can interpret the same work of art. All art created shares two common parts: it has a purpose and it is an original piece. Original in this context means that the creator did something that no one had done before. For example, Bansky, a famous international street artist, created stencils on city walls and sidewalks. Furthermore, the purpose of art is for the creator to express ideas, feelings or make the audience react to a work. This is seen in Bansky's street art as he expresses his political agenda through humorous artwork. Anyone can decide what art is as long as it communicates an idea and is an original work. “All works of art…have a common quality” which is a single purpose and idea (Dean 29). The motivation behind art is that it gives the author “the ability to show and tell” the emotions behind the work (Wallach 2). They can express their thoughts and ideas through a work of art either to get their message across or to get a reaction from the audience. The next important step for an object to be considered art is that it must be original. It must be an idea or concept that the artist came up with themselves. This is imperative because anyone can copy what someone else has done, but only an artist can create something new. Art is not limited to paintings or drawings. It can also involve dancing, writing and music. Since the range of arts is very broad, this raises the question of whether someone can be an artist. There are no restrictions on who can be an art...... middle of paper ...... to inform the public about the harsh reality of bullying. Art can have many different definitions for people around the world. But the two consistent things that all art must have are: a purpose and being original. Anyone can make art, whether it's a book, a drawing or a theater piece, but for it to be considered art it must have both of these characteristics . An example, Banksy's drawing in Tribeca of the Twin Towers is an example of art. With this drawing, he clearly sends a message that New York City still remembers this traumatic event but looks to the future with hope. Additionally, this stencil design is an original, which is another reason why it is considered art. Another street artist similar to Banksy is Mr. Brainwash. He also has a purpose behind his art, which is to get the public to respond to his work rather than expressing his political ideas like Banksy..
