Essay / Religious takeover - 806
Religious Takeover In today's United States, there is an abundance of problems attributed to many disgruntled citizens. One of these problems is the great influence of religion on politics; some might say it takes over. While many conservative Republicans and devout Christians might argue that allowing religion to influence our politics helps boost the morale of a morally challenged population, religion, when mixed with politics, only causes anger. deep divisions between the different political parties and allows the adoption of unconstitutional laws. One reason why religion should be removed from politics is that a majority of the American public agrees that churches should stay out of politics. In fact, four in ten Americans think our political leaders have been too vocal about their religion or prayer. In 2010, the majority thought there wasn't enough religion, but the numbers shifted across all political parties (Miller 1). Recent polls indicate that “a little more than half of the population (38%) believe churches should stay out of politics” (Miller 1). If these facts aren't enough to sway politicians, then they need to look to America's young adults. About half of college graduates believe there is too much religion in politics, up 14 percent from a few years ago. 38% of college-educated people are also uncomfortable with the amount of religion used by politicians, which is up from 27% in 2010 (Miller 2). If so many Americans are upset about politicians basing their business on religion, that tells you something is wrong. Another reason why religion must be separated from politics is that, in an already divided political system, religion forces Democrats..... .middle of paper ......tics, but that will also against the constitution. It's time for politicians to start listening to what the people want, and they want a government free of religious influence.
