    The migration of people has posed challenges in the education system, which is why public schools have made an effort to be multicultural and respond to needs of their students. In An Introduction to Multicultural Education: From Theory to Practice “Historical Foundations of Multicultural Education in the United States” by Chinaka Samuel Domnwachukwu defines multicultural education: “It is seen as an attempt to create awareness and tolerance between cultures and those that are linked to it all over the world” ( Domnwachukwu, 84). Multicultural education is an important component of learning, especially in a school with a large minority population. For example, a large proportion of students attending public schools do not have as advanced an English vocabulary as those whose only language and form of communication is English. Public schools have found a way to do what they can with English language learners (ELLs) because they recognize the barrier students face in mastering a second language. In the United States, English is the dominant language taught in the classroom, and the challenge for ELL students is to make the effort to do their best despite their English. For teachers, communicating with ELL students poses a challenge when the student does not have a profession in the academic language and struggles with the daily task of being able to act independently like their peers. The radical change for schools, which focus less on education, is due to the new structure of the standards and what they implement in students.
