A sustained algal bloom, which is an increase in the amount of a microalgae species, could cause eutrophication. Eutrophication is a process that can occur in rivers, shallow lakes, and other bodies of water when the addition of additional nutrients from fertilizers causes heavy algae growth (Sharma, 2011). Once the algae dies, it is broken down by bacteria, which decreases the concentration of oxygen in the water, so aerobic organisms may not survive. “Red tides” are “flowers” formed by dinoflagellates. In these flowers, the cell can be so impressive that it colors the sea domestically, red, reddish, yellow or brown. Dinoflagellate blooms, forming terribly massive patches, can stain the ocean over several square kilometers. Dinoflagellate blooms tend to form red tides, usually in areas protected from strong winds. The majority of these blooms are toxin producers, leading to the death of fish and many other marine creatures. Not all algae blooms are destructive, even if they are red in color.
