Essay / Entertainment Industry and Social Media - 669
Bruce Willis once proclaimed that “art imitates life, and sometimes life imitates art.” It's a strange combination of elements. And whether it's movies, TV shows, or even music, we are all exposed to and influenced by media. However, although media can influence society, it is still a complex business activity. Everything in entertainment starts as a business and how the audience responds/receives it is what makes it social. This activity can have both positive and negative effects on society. It all depends on how far the entertainment industry pushes the boundaries. The entertainment industry only cares about what sells. If horror movies are truly popular, that's what they'll produce. Just like if rap or country music is popular, that's what they'll play on the radio. Films such as Noah, Heaven is For Real, God is Not Dead, The Passion, and Son of God are all part of the recent rise in popularity and debate over Bible-based entertainment. If something is popular and controversial, it becomes a smash hit. Miley Cyrus is a good example of a controversial star. Miley Cyrus is the perfect example of someone who tried a style and when it didn't sell, started doing the exact opposite. Miley Cyrus first became a sensation when she sang pop music under the name "Hannah Montana." As she grew older, she began to take a different direction. Miley grew up in the country genre and has released a few country songs while her fan base hasn't changed with her, however. Miley's country style wasn't selling. So, to make money, Miley became what she is today, a crazy and inappropriate controversial star. Miley is currently a sensation and has a huge influence on society. Miley is known as the "Queen of Twerk" and... middle of paper ... has brought many people in Tehran to awareness of the world around them and could very well spark change within the nation. It is these types of incidents that make up the social aspect of the entertainment industry. The company has always been a reflection of the entertainment industry and I personally find that very interesting. If you look at the early television shows, they were very morally sensitive. We've never shown married couples sleeping in the same bed, we've never seen divorced couples, and we've never shown children disrespecting their parents. So naturally, society has also become very morally sensitive. Society began to change as the entertainment industry evolved. Stars like Elvis Presley began pushing the boundaries and society followed, continuing the cycle. Leading us to where we are today. It will be interesting to see how far the envelope is pushed before bursting..
