Essay / Eyes of Revenge: The Count of Monte Cristo - 1305
Edmond Dantès was a 19-year-old man who became captain of a ship called the Pharaon. He was very loved by everyone. He is quite gullible and becomes vengeful when the guy he considered his friend betrayed him, the other two he didn't like ruined his life. He was a respectable young man who showed this on several occasions such as when he had to leave Morrel while he was talking to him; he said: “Please excuse me, Monsieur Morrel (Dumas 5). He was to be engaged to a girl named Mercedes whom he had loved very much but whom he loved his father more than anything. He felt bad when he discovered that his father had defaulted on his debt, causing him to fall to his knees and said, “May God forgive me” (Dumas 9). Dantes is quite a unique character who only works hard to get what he wants to achieve. Edmond was a very ambitious man who wanted nothing more than to become a captain and marry his beloved. He achieved his goal of becoming captain following the death of his former captain. He is a man who saw the good in people rather than whether they did him harm or not. He becomes a very dynamic character throughout the story, transforming into the mysterious and vengeful Count of Monte Cristo. As a result of his imprisonment and the realization that he was the result of a conspiracy, his entire personality changes, which will trigger a change in the story. As described throughout the story, “nothing has ever escaped the eyes of the count” (Dumas 276) and nothing will stop his desire to ruin the men who “killed him.” Baron Danglars, Fernand Mondego and Villefort are the protagonists of the story described by Danglars. as an older man who “was personally as hated as Edmond Dantès was loved by them” (Dumas 3). It is rich and sp...... middle of paper ...... its conflicts to enhance the theme by showing the outcome and efforts made by the characters in the book for their own happiness.
