In the book titled Playing Politics with Science: Balancing Scientific Independence and Government Oversight, this author wrote that “During the Cold War, President Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Reagan considered investments in scientific research as important to defending the country against the threat of Soviet imperialism” (Resink, 2009). This film warns against using science to solve political problems. As we know from the title of the film, Dr. Strangelove, this director, Stanley Kubrick, wanted to show that people place absolute trust in science, which could cause the worst mistakes in human history. Therefore, in the movie, Doomsday Device went into operation because of the computer control system to indicate that the computer cannot be relied on to solve the problem.
