Before we discussed our life plans with each other, most of us had an average individual preference for living with each other. As we discussed it more we realized the co-op would get in the way and everyone would be separated and each person had different ideas about how far they wanted to live from campus and how much they were willing to pay . After our group had a discussion, a choice shift occurred because the group's average preference was to no longer live together, unlike the initial average individual preference. Our group presented the situation in a negative way, thus taking more risks and breaking up. In other words, we saw our losses as the distance and the amount each person was willing to pay to avoid living together, thus taking the risk of separating. The more we talked about our plans for next year and what each of us wanted, the more polarized our group became and the more our feelings about separation grew..
