    Australia is entering a new curriculum phase in which there will be no state-by-state curriculum. This will be a national program developed by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). By introducing a national curriculum, the Australian government hopes to unify what is taught across all states and territories. It is possible to analyze the Australian curriculum in terms of the definitions of the curriculum it incorporates, how it is structured, and how it is similar or different to different curriculum models. Using references from various readings and analyzing the Australian National Curriculum, this article will also address the aim and objective promoted by the Australian Curriculum, how it is informed by factors such as learning theories, how it sheds light on the teaching and assessment process and how it will meet the needs of the 21st century learner. The Australian Curriculum encompasses many different definitions of the curriculum. Marsh (2008) offers various definitions of curriculum, for example that it is a learning plan, a teaching plan, what is taught in schools, a set of subjects, of content and a set of materials. Marsh (2010) also explores similar definitions that curriculum is that which is taught in school, a set of subjects, content, materials, performance objectives and a plan. ACARA mentions that the key elements for K-10 will be content descriptions and achievement standards. He also emphasizes that it will show what teachers should teach and what students should learn.
