  • Essay / The Other Wess Moore The Other Wes Moore - 1717

In the high crime neighborhood where the other Wes lived, the people who live there need a positive role model or mentor to lead them towards a better future. Usually, the oldest members of the family are the person they can look up to. The other Wes's mother wasn't there when the other Wes felt confused about his future and needed her to support him and give him advice. Even though the other Wes' mother moved around and tried to protect the other Wes from the bad influences of the neighborhood, the other Wes still dropped out of school and ended up in prison. While the author Wes went to private school every day with his friend Justin; the other Wes tried to skip school with his friend Woody. Moore says, “Wes had no intention of going to school. He was supposed to meet Woody later – they were going to skip school with friends, stay at Wes's house and have a meal out” (59). This example shows that at the time the other Wes was not interested in school. Because Mary was busy at work, trying to support her son's education, she had neither the time nor the energy to take care of the other Weses. Because of this, she didn't know how the other Wes was doing at school and had no idea that he was running away from school. She missed the opportunity to intervene in her son's life and put him on the right path. Additionally, when the author was in military school, the other Wes was selling drugs to people on the street and was already the father of one child. The incident that caused the other Wes to drop out of school happened when he had a conflict with a guy. The other Wes was dating the girl without knowing she had a boyfriend. One night, her boyfriend found out about her relationship with the other Wes and got into an argument with him. During the fight, the other Weses chased the guy and shot him. The guy got hurt and the other Wes got arrested
