    Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm First, I'm going to talk about Dr. King, who was born on January 19, 1929 in his family home in Atlanta, Georgia, as Michael Luther King Jr., but changed his first name to Martin later in life . His grandfather and father, Martin Luther King Sr., were both reverends at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Dr. King Jr. spent his undergraduate years at Morehouse College in Atlanta, where he discovered that Christianity could be used as a force for social change. During his final semester, he was ordained and also took his first steps toward political activism by writing a letter to the editor of the Atlanta Constitution asserting that African Americans were "entitled to fundamental rights and to the opportunities of American citizens. He also joined the intercollegiate council where different racial students met monthly at Emory University for discussions.
