    I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the homeless and when I had the opportunity to be able to help through Project 180, I decided to volunteered. What Project 180 does is very important. We go to at-risk neighborhoods in San Francisco and not only distribute basic necessities like blankets or socks, but we also help out at soup kitchens and administer food. The 180 Project also engages homeless people in mental health and substance abuse treatment by providing them with immediate access to appointments in safe recovery programs to give them a chance to “do a 180” in their lives. I rode around with other volunteers in a van and was able to distribute socks and blankets and food to the homeless in San Francisco. I also donated clothes to Project 180's clothing drive every other Wednesday in Concord and volunteered to help. The other volunteers I worked with are so passionate about helping the homeless that it was hard not to share their excitement at being able to help. Being able to see the suffering and despair of the homeless people I came in contact with was heartbreaking and motivated me to help Project 180 again. A friend of mine, David Miles, on my first excursion in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco told me that "we are the only ones who come here to help these people." This saddened me. Think that
