Essay / The role of fate in Macbeth - 1238
Fate has various meanings. One of the meanings of destiny: the power that predetermines events. The definition of destiny suggests that events will happen and not change. Everything that happens in life cannot be changed by humanity. The statement has undisclosed meanings; fate has the possibility of changing if the person wishes events to end differently. However, bad decisions will only seal fate. In Shakespeare's Macbeth, fate is confirmed by Lady Macbeth wanting more power, Macbeth's inner conflict and the three witches tricking Macbeth and leading to his demise. The witches give Macbeth prophecies that come true; but it doesn't always work correctly. The witches talk about the confusion they will create: “What is right is wrong, and what is wrong is right. / Fly over the fog and the dirty air” (Ii10-11) The witches plan what to do with Macbeth. “There to meet Macbeth” (Ii7), they make their plan and take advantage of what is about to unfold. Making destiny change as they wish. The three sisters chant at Macbeth: “Hello everyone, Macbeth! Hello, Thane of Glamis! / Hello everyone, Macbeth! Hello, Thane of Cawdor! / Hail everyone, Macbeth, who will now be king! (I.iii.48-50) Macbeth begins to believe the witches because the first two things they said are true and therefore seem wise. He already bears the title of Thane of Glamis; and soon after learns that he inherits the Thane of Cawdor. Believing the sisters seems like the right thing to do. Deceiving people is an area of expertise that witches are good at. Macbeth begins to rely on others rather than himself, which will eventually drive him mad. The witches conspire with Hacate "As by the force of their illusion/ Must reject fate, despise death...... middle of paper ....../ Before human law has purged the sweet good -be ;/ Yes, and since then too, murders have been committed” (III.iv.76-78), the murder that Macbeth has plotted is disclosed to the audience The high amount of stress causes fear and grief in the. mind. Reassuring fate through the illusions created by Macbeth's thought process. Destiny determines what happens in a person's life and others are affected by fate through death or dying. .No one can escape what awaits them, the inevitable will eventually happen if the person makes intelligent choices and does not make stupid mistakes.
