UNIVERSITY OF RWANDACOLLEGE OF EDUCATIONGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN TEACHING AND LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONSTask: Write a critical essay on the question “What is Knowledge Worth”. In your essay, critically explain the reasons for your choice as well as how this knowledge should be taught and assessed. In the following paragraph I have taken ideas from a document on the value of education in the 21st century, and I find it relevant because it is adapted to the unstable situations in which the world lives, therefore they are adaptable to the situation. The call for 21st century knowledge frameworks rests largely on the claim that education has failed to prepare students for the demands of the 21st century. The school (in terms of organization, structure and format) remains much the same today as it was throughout the 20th century. Recommendations for 21st century skills have emerged from educators such as Howard Gardner (Gardner, 2008), popular writers such as Daniel Pink (Pink, 2005), and organizations such as the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (Partnership for 21st Century Skills, 2007) and the Center for Public Education (Jerald, 2009). These individuals and organizations argued that it had become increasingly clear that the workforce required by an increasingly globalized economy requires an entirely different model of education, one that transcends repetition skills , basic and repeat of the 20th century. applied knowledge and limited literacy. With this in mind, we set out to understand and define what learning in the 21st century really means, according to those involved in the discussion. This work is critically important because it will help determine what we teach and, just as importantly, how we teach it...... middle of article ...... studies have made the physical proximity optional, not only in education, but also in fields such as business and medicine, and they have made the availability for interaction effortless. Because of increased opportunities for interaction across countries and the world, teachers need to know how to foster cultural competence, emotional awareness, and leadership skills to facilitate not only interactions, but also meaningful interactions and relationships. Interestingly, this specific type of knowledge is largely absent from "standards-based" educational movements and is not always seen as worth extended teaching time and effort. My assessment should focus on skills that help students succeed in work, school, and life, in other words, it should focus on what students have memorized but on their analytical thinking about a question data.
