When I scheduled the Persuasive Communications course, I had no particular interest in the topic; I just needed to complete the general education required for a second writing course. It fit my schedule and seemed reasonably interesting, but I didn't think I'd get much out of it. After all, it was a general education course and would not be high on my priority list. Now that the semester is almost over and the class work is complete (albeit after this article), I feel like I learned a lot from this course. The main goal of the course was to expand our skills as writers, but it also taught us many other things that are valuable in our education and future careers. Above all, this course was intended to help us further develop our abilities as writers. Writing is a very important skill to have, not only in college, but throughout your life. Most colleges and universities realize this, and Ohio State University is no different. Every student, regardless of major, must take English as their first writing course and then choose from a number of options for a second writing course. By not completing these two writing courses, a student cannot graduate. When I had to choose which second writing course I would take, I wasn't too concerned with the course content. I narrowed down the choices based on what fit my schedule, then chose Persuasive Communications because it didn't sound great. I was right, it wasn't horrible. It actually turned out to be a pretty enjoyable class. It succeeded in its primary mission, because I feel that my writing skills are better now. In terms of writing, this course was valuable because of its variability. The missions were all related, in ter...... middle of paper ...... sometimes, but we all got along pretty well, which made it easier to collaborate. Persuasive communications have allowed me to grow as a writer, a speaker and a student. This turned out to be a great option for the second college-required writing course. I've never really liked public speaking because I tend to get nervous no matter how prepared I am. During the town hall speech, I did my best to overcome this problem and I believe I did a good job. My only regret is that I didn't appreciate the course material until halfway through the semester. I allowed myself to focus on my chemistry and kinesiology classes and placed my other classes lower on my priority list. As a result, I will get a B+ or an A- in the course when I should have gotten an A (you can always give me an A if you want ). Overall, I enjoyed this course and will recommend it to others.
