It is not surprising that we are talking about prison overcrowding everywhere. Not to mention how serious this situation is and how serious it can become. Many American citizens don't understand why this is such a big problem because some of them think it's not their problem. That's why they just don't care. Furthermore, some Americans may say that they don't care what might happen to inmates due to the impacts of prison overcrowding because it's their own fault. In order to address this growing problem, people need to start caring about what is happening, even if it concerns people who might deserve it. The problem is that people who are incarcerated don't need to be incarcerated. Instead of trying to do what's best for offenders and help them, we just throw them in prison for many years and hope it will help them. Yes, this idea works in some cases, but in other cases, leaving the person prisoner for many years only makes things worse. They don't get the help or treatment they need. I spoke with a man who was in prison for many years and he told me that it was much easier to get drugs in prison than to get them out of prison. He also said most drug offenders return to prison because they don't get help with their addiction. They are placed in a place that only makes their addictions worse.
