    Gothic fiction is a literary genre consisting of horror, darkness, death, terror, castles, and many other gruesome elements to create suspense and engage the reader. In the 18th century, this specific genre became popular with the novel "The Castle of Otranto", and later developed into other well-known stories such as "Frankenstein" and "Dracula". The name Gothic refers to the spooky buildings in which many of these stories take place. The Gothic genre also developed into German Gothic and Victorian Gothic. “The Tell-Tale Heart” is an example of a gothic short story, written by Edgar. Allan Poe and published in 1943. The story is told by a person with a hidden identity, who has committed a murder and tries to convince himself and the reader that he is not crazy. By explaining how the murder happened, the reader realizes how well everything was planned, even though the narrator clearly shows signs of psychological disturbance throughout the story. He makes the reason for his murder evolve around the eye of an old man, threatening to the narrator. He describes the murder as an attempt to “get rid of my eye forever.” Poe focused more on the psychology of his characters and often turned them into madness. “The Tell-Tale Heart” is one of Poe's most famous short stories, as well as being one of the classics of the Gothic genre. In the story “The Tell-Tale Heart,” the common elements of a Gothic story are visible. from the start. One of the first sentences is "Why do you say I'm crazy?" » and it gives a boost to people's fear of madness and evil. Poe did a great job using different techniques and introducing the ideas of a psychologically ill character into his story. Additionally, many gothic elements are used perfectly to create an entertaining and easy-to-read story that many people will enjoy reading for years to come. I think this story is a perfect example of what a gothic short story should look like and I consider this story to be a good source of motivation for young writers..
