Bullying Freaks and GeeksWalking down the school hallway to the next class, the bully appears in front of his prey. He stands before his future victims as if he were two feet taller and ten times stronger. His victims try to ignore him, but he stops them and puts his face in front of theirs to ensure his presence is known. He then abruptly decides to save his senseless punishment for another day as he passes with a light shoulder tap. In today's high schools, the majority of bullying incidents occur this way. A bully finds the weakest children and targets them. Freaks and Geeks, a television show, demonstrates these specific instances of bullying and their effects on the character of Bill Haverchuck. The pain caused by bullying goes beyond superficial bruises and extends to damaging internal feelings. When analyzing Freaks and Geeks, it is evident that this television show demonstrates the physical and emotional effects of bullying through the character of Bill Haverchuck. As a breeding ground for bullies, high school has become a miserable place for some students. If a student is not a top athlete or is not accepted by their peers, it is very likely that they will be bullied at some point during their high school education. The geeks in any high school normally experience the majority of bullying. The consequences of insults and physical violence on students are horrific. Bullying can lead to serious emotional problems. From insecurity to lack of self-esteem, students begin to have a negative view of themselves and their lives. Bill Haverchuck, a character from Freaks and Geeks, goes through the same ordeals as real victims of bullying. Featuring a typical high school environment, Freaks and Geeks displays middle of paper......presses others in an attempt to gain the respect and sympathy of other peers. Bill's reasoning for trying to fit in was similar to his bully's. Despite having similar goals, Bill's bully went too far and ended up causing another student to be hospitalized. The character of Bill Haverchuck was used in this episode to show how stupid and unnecessary bullying is. As shown in the television series Freaks and Geeks as a real problem in high school, bullying is something that needs to be understood and dealt with. In an age where bullies have more resources, the consequences are too serious to do nothing. Bullying now extends beyond the school corridors and has invaded students' homes.
