  • Essay / Involvement in schools - 1841

I remember it clearly as the day; It was the fall of 1986, I showed off my most beautiful dress the day before and I felt the excitement of having the chance to assemble the big yellow cheese. One morning, my mother burst into my room saying, "It's time to wake up! Today is the day to be a big girl!" Obviously, without paying attention to the words "big girl", my main goal was to take the bus. Eventually, Mom and I walked to the end of our street; standing on the corner like we were lost. I noticed more and more people coming to the area with children and I started to get nervous. Quite simply because they were unknown to me. The bus finally arrived, and in that moment my heart sank. My mother pushes me, but without her by my side. I was petrified, not knowing anyone, feeling alone and when would I see my mother next. The big yellow dream that turned into a nightmare finally stopped in front of a huge building that was full of children in the home, making me even more nervous. There were teachers who helped us get to our class; so they called him. As we sat at our desks, the teacher drew our attention to the front corner of the classroom where an American flag hung. She said we were going to learn some very important words. In fact, they are so important that we will start each day with these words. We would share these words and we would be proud to be one. The words the teacher taught us were the Pledge of Allegiance. As we said these words together for the first time, my nervousness disappeared. We all fit in, not because we all missed the words, but because we shared a love for our homeland and were united. However, in today's schools, engagement is sometimes left aside in the classroom...... middle of paper......religious exercise?"UnderGod.ProCon.org.http:/ /undergod.procon.org/view.answers.php?questionID=000072 (accessed May 11, 2011).
