There are a few things you need to know about India before doing business there. Social and cultural norms are a different thing. There are also differences in political and legal systems, economic systems and management systems. Some of the differences are obvious, while others are qualities that a representative or individual should be aware of before doing business in the region.Social-CulturalIn India, the culture of politeness makes it almost impossible for individuals to say “no”. It is best not to pressure an Indian partner or consumer, as it is culturally rude to express disapproval, but this can be assumed through body language and vaguely detailed responses. When greeting associates and consumers, greet the senior or most senior first, as this is a hierarchical culture. It is also customary to shake hands with all members of the group when saying goodbye. Women are allowed to shake hands with women and men are allowed to shake hands with men, but it depends on religious views and beliefs as to whether a mixed couple can shake hands.
