System software is used in a wide variety of businesses, schools, and any other establishment that requires computers. It has evolved over time to become what it is today. As it is still evolving, the focus will be on what it is and its relatability to the everyday consumer. According to the definition given in our manual, it defines system software as software that helps the computer to perform essential operating tasks and allows application software to run (WILLIAMS and SAWYER). It indicates system software divided into three components: device drivers, utility programs and operating systems. In the manual, device drivers are described as helping the computer control peripheral devices, while utility programs are described as being used to support, enhance, or extend existing programs in a computer system. (WILLIAMS and SAWYER) However, the operating system is the most important component. It defines the low-level master system of programs that manage basic computer operations. Basically, the computer does not function as a user-friendly computer without the operating system. Microsoft releases more user-friendly system software for PC every few years. It seems that as soon as we understand an operating system, a new one is launched. Some people never get used to the new operating system and continue to use an older operating system. However, as the Internet and other programs update their software to the new operating system, users of older systems find themselves experiencing problems on their computers or not having access to the new version of some software because of the system they use.
