Essay / Project Charter - 890
Project Charter“Our plans fail because they have no purpose. When a man does not know to what port he is heading, no wind is the right wind,” a famous Seneca quote about our purpose. It is a metaphor about achieving purpose and objectives through good planning skills. You have to plan what you want to achieve and where you want to go. One of the most important things is to have good planning. Before taking on a project, the first thing to do is create a project plan. Planning can be defined as the preparation of a sequence of actions to achieve specific goals and objectives. According to Kerzner (2009), “project planning is desirable that the project manager is involved from the conception of the project to its execution. It must be systematic, flexible to manage, tightly disciplined through review and control, and capable of accepting multifunctional input (p. 412).” The importance of planning a project is to describe the work so that it is easily identifiable by the project team member. One way to provide a clear description of a project is to prepare a project charter. A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (2008), “it is the process of developing a document that formally authorizes a project or phase and initial requirements that satisfy stakeholder expectations” (p. 71). Preparing a project charter is the first step for the project manager to start any project. In the Project Charter, we can describe different components of the projects. To start a project, preparing a project charter is the first step for the project manager. Some of the essential components are described below.
