  • Essay / Letter to Teacher - 669

I have greatly improved my writing skills since taking the College Ready Writing course. My eighth grade English teacher, Mr. Stephen Tobie, laid the foundation for my writing abilities while you sculpted them into an admirable talent. He taught me the basics of writing. College Ready Writing has brought organization and focus to my writing. I have learned many important skills from my former and current teachers and have the greatest gratitude for both. Many factors influence a person's initial writing abilities, but they can always improve through regular use. I learn quite quickly, but faster in some areas than in others. I learn by seeing and physically doing. I have to visualize a concept and produce it on paper by writing. I retain information while taking notes and don't need to study. I don't learn very well through auditory methods alone, although they make my learning easier when combined with visual models. The student must recognize the methods with which he learns most effectively and use this learning style to his advantage. I try to immerse myself in a broad spectrum of writing. From newspaper articles to ancient philosophical texts, I believe that a complete understanding of literature demonstrates true intelligence. On the positive side, I favor personal development texts that I can learn and develop like The Art of War by Sun Tzu. On the other hand, I prefer not to read literature without meaning or hidden concepts that the public must discover. Although I have my preferences, I always try to read “How To” and non-fiction books. The literature that a person disfavors should be the writing that the person should make an effort to read, because he or she will learn a lot from it. I consider myself a good reader and I am ...... middle of paper ...... them in a timely manner. To attend the course daily, I must have above average health and physical condition to exclude any possibility of absence. If I actively participate in class and complete all assignments on time, failure has no place in my pursuit of success. Positive action causes the student to become inactive in negative habits like procrastination and unhealthy lifestyle. Writing has become a major method of expressing my beliefs and thoughts. I had the greatest role models in writing and English. The success of my predecessors was manifested in magnitude through me. They subjected the coal known as my writings to heat and pressure. Eventually, my writing became a diamond in the rough; rough around the edges, but a diamond no less. While environmental factors affect a student's writing, constant revision and practice polishes the diamond that lies within every writer's mind..
