Our 32nd President Franklin Roosevelt once uttered the famous words of "Remember, always remember, that we all, and you and I in particular, are going down of immigrants and revolutionaries. » (Roosevelt, Franklin) In the dilemma we face today, people like to use this as an excuse. In all the years of our great country's founding, we have always thrived on immigrants, because even we are descended from them. However, when others come here to our country without papers and radically change our country, then we must fight against them to get back what is ours. We live in a nation where every culture and every person is just one important part of making our country great, but some recent visitors to our country have made it difficult to continue to thrive as a great nation that we are. The struggle I am talking about is not immigration but illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants have sparked a political struggle, within government, and have had consequences even in your own schools and workplaces. We need to fix the immigration system to improve our situation, because the effects of illegal immigration may surprise you. One of the biggest drawbacks of allowing illegal immigrants into our country is the cost. They take huge amounts of money away from taxpayers and our government, including welfare, food stamps and free college. Illegal immigrants receive benefits such as free welfare and food stamps from taxpayers' wallets (Expensive Foreigners: How Much Illegal Aliens Really Cost). Worse still, 80% of illegal immigrants fail to repay their taxes, which has caused a sharp increase in tax rates (Cost of Illegal Immigration, Crimes and Related Issues (United States).
