Essay / Educational Games for Understanding the Model - 865
Educational Games for Understanding the Model is the topic I have been researching on. This teaching model was created by Rod Thorpe and David Bunker of Loughborough University. The abbreviation for Teaching Games For Understanding Model is TGFU. This model was designed for students to inform them about the games they play in physical education. This learning model does not reflect student performance. It focuses on teaching students key skills and concepts in the classroom. There are six steps in TGFU that specifically target an important skill or concept that the student needs. The next six stages are game form, game appreciation, tactical awareness, decision making, skill execution and performance. All of these steps combine to achieve one goal: teaching students the skills and concepts they need in physical education, sports, and life. The first stage of TGFU is the game form. This first stage involves introducing the game to the students. Physical education teachers should show students the main concept of the game and how it is played by example. They begin to focus on important aspects of how the game is played. Once the teacher has finished explaining the game, he or she introduces the game form change which involves breaking down each important step of the game focusing on each specific part. This process allows students to gain experience in each role of the game. Game appreciation is the second stage of TGFU. This step is important because the teacher begins teaching students the rules of the game. Teaching students the rules of a game before involving them will improve their performance and make the game better. If a student is unable to learn the rules , he will then need... middle of paper...... to be able to acquire skills and concepts that are important to know during the last years of his life. Teaching the steps of the TGFU will help students participate and learn skills that can be used within physical education or outside in different sports.
