Essay / The Pharmaceutical Industry and the Manipulation of...
For as long as civilization has existed, humans have been searching for ways to advance in the field of medicine in order to cure disease and extend human lifespan . This has led to many positive aspects, such as new discoveries, inventions and revolutionary vaccines. The pharmaceutical industry is an aspect of medicine that has grown dramatically over the past decade. Pharmaceutical companies are responsible for manufacturing and distributing drugs in the form of medicines. If the main purpose of medicines is to help sick people, the same cannot be said of the pharmaceutical industry. Unfortunately, pharmaceutical companies have discovered that the more we advance in the field of medicine, the more money there is to be made. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the pharmaceutical industry is worth $300 billion a year and predicts it will reach $400 billion by next year. Because of their greed for money, the pharmaceutical industry has rightfully become one of the most corrupt institutions in America. They have turned America into a country that is rapidly moving down the risky path of drug addiction and dependence, and the majority of the blame lies with them. In order to extricate itself from this dilemma, America must first realize the seriousness of the pharmaceutical industry's corrupt modus operandi: using its power and influence not for the purpose of creating cures, but for the purpose of to create lifelong customers from whom we can profit. The most common way the pharmaceutical industry uses its power and influence to create lifelong customers is through the manipulation of clinical research. When a pharmaceutical company creates a new drug, it must first get the green light from the Foo...... middle of paper ...... g the company doesn't start by fixing the pharmaceutical industry, it begins by repairing our way of life. The only way to end the corruption of the pharmaceutical industry is to stop depending on it, and that starts with greater independence from the United States. Hopefully soon America will begin to wake up to the stranglehold of dependency in which the pharmaceutical industry finds itself. pharmaceutical companies are making money, it seems that nothing can stop them from engaging in corruption. The horrible fact that the pharmaceutical industry is primarily concerned with creating customers for profit rather than creating real cures must be changed as quickly as possible, before this country becomes a victim of its own addiction. Let's hope that soon America will move beyond its obsession with the easy way out, because there is no easy solution to this dilemma..
