    In the first opening scene, Snow White is referred to as a “lovely little princess”. In her first appearance, she is cleaning and looking desperate while waiting to be rescued. Snow White is depicted as young, virginal, pretty, obedient, and incapable of helping herself. This film, released in 1937, shows what were the “good” gender roles of the time. In Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, power is segregated between the sexes, and even to this day, the stereotypical gender roles seen in this film still carry some weight in our society. The film's message to viewers about gender and power is that women are expected to take care of the home and play a supporting role, while men go to their jobs and provide. The men are strong and sturdy and the women naive and domesticated. Women need men and men always come to the rescue to save women and give them a happy ending.
