  • Essay / The emergence of a global aircraft manufacturing brand

In the article I chose, the author discusses one of the most successful business stories in Latin America over the last 20 years. This success comes despite the fact that the company is from an emerging market and a developing country. Brazilian company Embraer may not be known to the general public, but it is known to those who make aircraft purchasing decisions, including: international airlines, business jet owners and military contractors. To build the company's reputation and achieve success, one needed to have adequate knowledge of foreign markets and how to enter them. No aircraft manufacturer has managed to remain in its domestic market in the long term. Airline manufacturers such as Tupolev and Ilyushin, which remained under the control of the Russian government, suffered. As the article states, Embraer has chosen a different path. Once, like the Russian companies mentioned above, it was primarily part of its country's aviation sector, and as a result, it had its advantages, including almost unlimited funds that the company could use in its research and development. They used these funds to “invest in large-scale R&D activities” (Promocorp). Despite this help, the company failed to achieve success, and by the 1990s it was facing financial problems that threatened to close its doors. Due to the financial pressure that an aircraft manufacturer could exert on a government, the Brazilian government chose to privatize the company. Although it was probably not done intentionally, this decision turned out to be the best thing that could have been done for the small aircraft manufacturer at the time and in a relatively short period of time, "Embraer... ... middle of paper ... ... / Innovation."
