    “I would like to send you a message: please do your best to tell the world what is happening to us children. So that other children do not have to suffer this violence. » These are the words of a 15-year-old girl in Uganda. Like her, an estimated 300,000 children under the age of eighteen serve as child soldiers in approximately thirty-six conflict zones (Shaikh). Life on the front lines often confronts children with the horrors of war. Too many children have personally experienced or witnessed physical violence, including executions, killings by death squads, disappearances, torture, arrests, sexual abuse, bombings , forced displacement, destruction of homes and massacres. Over the past ten years, more than two million children have been killed, five million disabled, twelve million homeless, one million orphaned or separated from their parents and ten million psychologically traumatized (UNICEF, “Children in War” ). They were deprived of their childhood and forced to participate in unwanted conflicts. In African countries, like Chad, this problem is increasingly becoming a global problem that needs to be addressed immediately. There are, however, other countries, such as Sierra Leone, where the problem has been effectively addressed. Although the use of child soldiers will never completely decrease, there is evidence in Sierra Leone that UNICEF's disarmament, demobilization and reintegration program will reduce the number of child soldiers in Chad and prevent their use in the future.
