  • Essay / Analysis of Hillary Clinton Political Cartoons - 750

This last cartoon fits quite well into many of the topics we have discussed in class. The artist depicted an angry mob of American citizens carrying wooden planks driving American Indians from their country. To me, this was just ironic, because the mob that goes after the Indians are the actual immigrants to this country. Personally, I think the stigma behind immigration reforms involving Native Americans is a joke because it's their country and we are the immigrants in most cases. The angry crowd said, “Immigrants are going back to where you came from,” and the Indian replied, “I took the words out of my mouth.” The dialogue in this political cartoon was quite comical in a sense because the Native Americans viewed the Anglos as the immigrants to their country. Basic knowledge that Native Americans are indigenous to the Americas and the struggle they endured against English-speaking invaders is sufficient background information to analyze this caricature. I believe the artist's message was to explain why we should not push immigration towards American Indians when we are the culprits and immigrants to this country who have destroyed their cultural roots. Political cartoons can be useful tools for explaining and understanding political issues that arise not only in the United States, but also around the world.
