Essay / Opportunity for Dreamers - 1083
Opportunity for DreamersI thought America was the land of opportunity. How can we say we are the land of opportunity if we easily deny or criticize a person for who they are. Undocumented immigrants who come to America through their parents have no choice. They grow up and go to school or lead normal lives like us, not knowing later that they will have difficulty continuing their education due to their undocumented status. Not being able to attend the college of their dreams or being able to have the same opportunities as us citizens. I agreed that the Dream Act should be passed so that these undocumented students could continue their education. “The liberal ideal is that everyone has equal access and equal opportunity. This is not an equality of result. It's equal opportunity. There is a fundamental difference.-"Quotes by Robert Reich". BrainyQuote. Xplore and Web. Nov. 16 2015. We are so fortunate as American citizens to be able to benefit from an education and to have so many opportunities available to us. Many of us do not take advantage of the opportunity to further our education, many simply drop out of school. But imagine that you have the opportunity to pursue an education while another person struggles and struggles to get an education. This is why I feel the need for the Dream Act to be passed, because many of these undocumented immigrants work very hard, some graduate their class, have good grades and high scores. We have to give them a chance, it's not their fault they came here illegally. They should not suffer from their parents' choice to come to America simply because they wanted to provide a better future for their children, an education and a better lifestyle for them. We are all equal, the only difference is resident status. ...... middle of paper ...... drop lawsuit and meet with immigrant families; and I hope he reconsiders and drops the lawsuit. Abbott must know that what Obama is doing is trying to keep families together. Millions of families are separated every year. Many undocumented students also want to continue their education. So, is America really the “land of opportunity” or is it just a phrase? Because, as I recalled, many come from all over the world to America for a better lifestyle, education or to escape the crime of their country. Those who have worked very hard to obtain higher education are denied admission to pursue this dream. They will not be punished for their parents' decision. We are all equal, live in the same country and as a nation we want the best for them to have the opportunity, just like us, to realize their dream of maintaining an education..
