Essay / The Public Image of Nurses in the Public Eye - 1064
She also wears a pair of fishnet socks with high heels. Her whole outfit is the stereotypical image of a sexy nurse. This woman is tarnishing the image of nursing by wearing such clothing. This shows the audience that nurses are seen as sex objects rather than who they actually are. This is in no way the professional way to show what a nurse looks like and/or should be portrayed. Some qualities that Black and Chitty define in the book as a professional nurse are someone who can understand a body of knowledge, have ethical standards, and have specialized training (Black & Chitty, 2014, p. 65). That said, having ethical standards does not mean wearing a highly sexualized outfit but a more professional and ethical outfit. A correct image of a typical nurse's outfit should include white coats that show no cleavage. It is also professionally correct to wear sneakers instead of sneakers. The media has and is brainwashing its users with degrading images of nurses, which is not a good thing.
