  • Essay / Cloud Computing Deployment - 1148

Cloud computing is a model that enables rapid, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources. These include networks, servers, applications, and storage services that can easily be made available with little management effort or service provider interaction. The authors of this article seek to identify the critical factors necessary for the effective deployment of cloud computing. This was done by examining key information that could impact the deployment of cloud computing. (Garrison, Sanghyun and Wakefield, 2012). There are three standard service models: infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS). IaaS is when cloud providers provide the servers, storage and connectivity domains and charge customers based on their usage. The PaaS model is where the provider provides the platform that allows the organization to access applications and services over the Internet. This allows the organization to have a well-tested application hosting environment without having the responsibility and expense of purchasing, deploying and managing the infrastructure. The SaaS model is where the cloud provider has full control over the application, which includes all relevant skills, updates and maintenance. To provide these models, three methods can be used: public cloud, private cloud and hybrid cloud. The difference between these is that public cloud providers are available to any customer, while the private cloud model is where the organization has exclusive use of an isolated cloud. The public model is more profitable than the private model; however the private model is better able to...... middle of paper...... strategy without. This research will also help the industry as it clearly highlights the importance of trust in finding a cloud service provider. When implementing the cloud service, any industry practitioner should be able to assess whether the implemented cloud strategy is in the best interest of the business, as well as review the collaboration and assurance between the company and the supplier; all this can be done using the confidence factor to make the assessment.
