Essay / Critical Incident Scenario - 1443
Critical Incident ScenarioThe critical incident I am about to tell you about involves an eight-year-old girl currently a student at Victory Independent School District (VISD). This student wrote in her class journal that her uncle touched her private parts while no one was looking. The professor wasn't sure what to do when he read Bianca's diary, mostly because he wondered if it was appropriate for him to ask her about it. The teacher was concerned that, because he was a man, the student would feel uncomfortable if he asked her questions about what she had written in her journal. The teacher knew what to do and he was so confused because he was reading and grading the papers at home over the weekend. He continued to read Bianca's diary and felt more concerned about his student's well-being at home. The next day he arrived at school very early to talk to the school counselor to find out exactly what he could do or what the school counselor could do for Bianca. He was very nervous because it was his first week teaching in a school since he graduated from university and he did not expect to experience this situation at such an early stage in his career. He spoke to the school counselor and explained the situation to her. The teacher showed the school counselor Bianca's journal and the school counselor mentioned that they needed more information about the situation because the journal was too short on the situation. The teacher mentioned that she could speak to Bianca privately when she arrived at school and ask her questions about the situation. The teacher mentioned to the school counselor that he was concerned that Bianca would not tell him the details middle of paper...... that school counselors and professionals are aware of ethical and legal procedures. which are necessary to effectively assist students in many factors that affect their personal, social and academic development. School counselors should always consider their ethical standards when helping students, according to their school's policies. However, the school counselor must be aware if his or her school's policies represent an ethical dilemma with its ethical standards and current laws.
