    The mistakes children make when learning a language do not seem to be random. The errors seem to have some structure. They have what is called cluster reduction and syllable deletion when pronouncing words. As we saw in class, they are more likely to delete syllables without emphasis than to delete syllables with emphasis. The fact that they do not delete just any syllable at random, but rather those that are most likely to be missed, shows that the errors children make when learning a language have a structure . These are structures that may or may not be present in adult language, although they may become evident as the adult begins to learn a new language.
